New Material and a much needed Break…

So, as some of you may have noticed, we have not been playing much lately. We decided after the New live album and last summer’s tour with Dead Modern Villains, that it was time to spend some time at home with family and then focus on writing a new record. We love the old material, but we have been moving into harder musical territory and want to spend some time developing this new sound.

We have been showcasing two new songs at shows called “Magnolia” and “Cold Waters” that clearly demonstrate the new direction along with the two new tracks off the live record “We only come out at night” and “Black Snake Shake” that also have a heavier sound than our previous original material. Less Slide guitar, more Chunkier heavier Riffs, while retaining our murky Hard edge is the goal. Hopefully fans will appreciate the new material as much as the old!

Look for more shows coming soon, as we get our new material dialed in. Eventually when we have the new album written, we will be playing more and hopefully organize a midwest tour to show off the new stuff!

In the meantime, if you havent yet, go pick up the New record “Outnumbered and Outgunned”!

Thanks for all the support and allowing us the opportunity to do this!

peace,

-Seth, Tom and Mitch

A short and much needed break….

After October, we will be taking a break to write some new music and start ideas for our next studio album. We also want to revamp our setlist and come back with some new covers to mix in with all new originals. With as busy as we have been, we need some down time to regroup and spend time with family too. With any luck we should be back at it hard by December and back out playing shows and unveiling some new songs!

We have some big news about the live album coming soon! A release date is on the horizon!

July and August…..

So July was very, very busy and now things are starting to slow down. 22 of the days in july were spent on the road, so you can imagine how eager we were to have a little bit of down time!

Prairie Dog Blues fest was fun, and they treated us well. The heat that day was tough to deal with, but we made it through and then went to the merch booth and sold quite a few copies of the album and signed autographs!

October is looking to be a good month as well with some exciting shows with great bands like “Spiral Trance” from milwaukee, “Great lakes Drifters” also from milwaukee, and ” Dead modern Villains” from green bay!

Looking forward to these and other exciting gigs with other great bands, hope to see you all out there at a show soon!

Revival’s a comin yall….

April was a great month for us, my birthday show was a huge success and the bands were fantastic! Locrian provided metal heads with a dose of good ol’ american metal…with covers of bands like Pantera, Anthrax, Prong and all that old school stuff we grew up on as well as some of their own originals. Soul shaker was awesome and we plan on bringing these boys back again soon, so be prepared to have your faces rocked off! Our buddies the Form from milwaukee were in their peak performance mode….playing the best set I have seen them do. All the bands were fantastic, and I had a blast! I think this birthday was indeed the best so far…thanks also to the Kruse in for providing a venue for the chaos!

The Rock n Roll revival is happening May 13 and 14th at Dales Weston lanes, in Weston,WI. The rock n roll revival raises money for school music programs in the area and features 20 bands this year! Some of these bands are: the Bad Downs, The D-Railers, The Whitehouse Players, Cool Hand and Many more! For more info on the show and ticket prices, click the link below to go to their homepage. Meantooth Grin plays at 11pm so make sure you plan to stay late!

Also in the month of May we will be playing Bratfest in Madison, the largest free music fest in the U.S.! Meantooth plays May 27th at 7:45pm and then we will be loading up and heading to the Dry Bean for a closing set with a great Hip Hop/neo soul act called the reminders. Be sure not to miss these two back to back shows in the madison area, its sure to be a great night with some other great bands!

The following night (May 28th) we will be back home at the Kruse In for a special show with our friends from Rhinelander, 4th Floor, who were also nominated for a WAMI this year in the Hard Rock Category. This is one you wont want to miss….so mark your calendar!

Enjoy the nice weather, hopefully it is here to stay….go out and see some live music and we will see you soon!

-Tom

Shows and Shows, and more shows…

So the band participated in the Gafton Blues Challenge April 16th, we didn’t place at all but we had fun and met some great people! Kris and Peter from the Grafton Blues society were great to us. Despite some technical issues with gear, we made it through our set and moved on to Milwaukee…where the following night we attended the WAMI awards in which we were nominated for best blues band and for the People’s choice. We didn’t walk away with a win this year but were still psyched to be nominated and once again got to mingle with many great bands and meet some amazing people!

We will be back at Summerfest in Milwaukee,WI this July 5th on the Briggs & Stratton stage, so mark your calendars for that one; it should be a great show. Headlining that stage later in the evening will be Legendary Reggae band “The Wailers” who became one of the biggest reggae band names ever backing The god father of the genre…….Bob Marley.

The really big news is that Rhinelander,WI will be the host of a fantastic Rock show that is almost too damn good to be true. June 11, 2011 The Taj Mahal in Rhinelander will be the site for one of the best rock n roll events Wisconsin has seen.  Meantooth Grin, 4th Floor, Soul shaker, The Ghosts of Swinetown and National Headliner “The Steepwater Band” from Chicago will light the place up, with Ghosts of Swinetown opening the show at 7PM!

Tickets are $10 in advance $12 at the door and are available at the following places in Rhinelander: Trig’s, Brown Street Books, The Taj Mahal, Hodag Lanes, Hodag Music,  and the NRG media buikding.

Tickets are also available online, email us @ booking@meantoothgrin.com  to buy online.

WRLO 105.3FM will also be giving away tickets and talking about the show so listen in for your chance to win tix as well as free swag!

Tom’s Annual Birthday 4 band extravaganza!

Since I started doing these shows in honor of the day my mother bravely pushed me forth into the world, each show has gotten better and better consistently. After last year’s line up I was sure it would be almost impossible to top, I mean come on! Last year we had Aaron Williams and the Hoodoo from Madison,WI, The D-Railers from Marshfield,WI, and HUD all the way from Minneapolis,MN…and lets not forget Meantooth Grin!

This year I think will be an even bigger hit! Opening up the show are Artisan Hard Rock/Metal heads “Locrian” from Rhinelander,WI. Locrian play alot of the stuff we grew up with in the late 80′s and 90′s like: Prong, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, etc. but they also play original stuff. I have known Mark and Dan from Locrian since junior high, they are like family and I couldn’t be happier that they are involved!

Also on the Bill this year is a newer band, called Soul Shaker from Madison. These guys are working on a full length album right now and let me tell you….I am psyched! These guys rock like nobody’s business and are making a name for themselves with their own brand of simple Rock n Roll seasoned with a little blues. When I say “simple” I do not mean three chord kiddie rock….I mean simple as in no thinking involved, simple as AC/DC or The Who or the Rolling stones. Take some Black Crowes, some Velvet revolver, some Allmans and add their own distinct flavor all to themselves and you’ve got…..Soul Shaker!!

We have played a few shows with Milwaukee’s WAMI nominated band “the Form” before, and it is always a good time! These guys bring a big band sound for a five piece. Though they cover some amazing bands like the Allmans and Springsteen, The true talent of this band lies in their original material which even though it has many similarities to a bigger band like the before mentioned ones; they retain a style all their own. This band is fun, and will have you hooked from the first note!

As would be expected, Meantooth Grin will play a set as well at some point. I plan on having a great time and enjoying the show myself after our set. so make sure to mark April 9th on your calendar and come down to the Kruse in for an amazing show!

WAMI Nominated…..again!

As if  life couldn’t get any sweeter lately, with the live album looking to be as good as we hoped and all….we are also nominated for a WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Award again for best blues band 2011. Last year we were nominated in the same category but did not win for blues, instead we won the People’s Choice WAMI for the Northwest quadrant of the state. People’s choice is voted upon by anyone and everyone who wants to vote for their favorite band in the state. We are hoping to get our fans to vote for us again for people’s choice!

Site up, and Live Album coming!!

So obviously the new site is up! Thanks are in order to our fantastic web designer “Ria” for all her hard work and hours getting the site up and running. If you have any suggestions on things you would like to see on the site, let us know at:  booking@meantoothgrin.com.

We had an album naming contest in which we asked fans to participate and send us names as well as vote on what we should call it. After many, many emails and back and forth from fans, one suggestion stuck out and made alot of sense to us for a title. The album name will be “Outnumbered and Outgunned: Meantooth Grin Live”. The winner was Bryan Lypsinski of Two Rivers,WI!!

So far, sponsors for the Live album show include: KAM Records, Rock 94.7FM, The Kruse In, Sun Printing, The Great Northern Blues Society, Coors Light and Central Wisconsin Night out.com.
